Chess

Last Sunday was another fantastic day for my photography and walking routine. This time, I covered a 5km stretch along the bustling Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. This area, known for its vibrant street life and cultural richness, provided the perfect backdrop for my latest challenge: shooting exclusively with a 50mm lens. Admittedly, I’m not the best with this lens, but that’s the beauty of these self-imposed challenges—they push you out of your comfort zone and make you see the world differently.

While wandering the streets, I stumbled upon a quintessential street photography moment. A group of men engrossed in their chess games, completely oblivious to the world around them, caught my eye. It was one of those serendipitous encounters that street photographers live for. I quickly snapped the shot, thankful that I had pre-focused and pre-set my exposure. This preparation allowed me to capture the scene without fumbling with my camera settings and potentially missing the moment.

The result was a candid shot that encapsulates the essence of street life. It’s days like these that remind me why I love street photography so much. It’s all about being in the right place at the right time and having a bit of luck on your side.
