This photo has been my favourite frontal portrait for many years. It reminds me of the National Geographic picture of the Afghan girl.
Picture was taken in 2006, during my trip to Hanoi via Crossing Bridges 6. For the trip, the Malaysian contingent made a stop over in Singapore before heading to Hanoi via Changi. We spent a night in Beetle Hut, a small dormitory type B&B somewhere around Joo Chiat.
In the B&B, they have a lot of the pictures from National Geographic posted on the wall. From there, I got the inspiration to shoot this picture (and many others). But I guess – after some point it got a bit monotonous, but hey – at the end of the day, you just need one picture to make the trip worth it 🙂
